It has been an encouraging week for Singapore women’s golf at the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific held at Sentosa Golf Club, The New Tanjong Course where we saw the youngest ever player Shannon Tan making the cut and testing her mettle with the region’s best female amateur golfers. The fourteen year old battled back from a disappointing first round of 78 to card a 1-over 72 for the second round to make the cut.
In the final round, Shannon showed much promise in the future by carding a 3-over 74 placing her 45th out of 53 of the region’s best women amateur golfers.
Callista Chen, who is the top-ranked Singaporean in the field came away with a world of experience after this event. Although she missed out on her personal goal of finishing in the top 20th, the week has taught her how to compete and handle pressure in a major event. Callista finished tied 37th after rounds of 72, 72, 74 and 78.
Our other four representatives were Inez Ng, Sarah Tan, Jacqueline Young and Nicole Mok. They had a struggling week overall and missed the cut. However, they took home invaluable experience from the week which will certainly help them grow as players.
