Pattaya, Thailand, February 2: Aloysa Atienza will head into the weekend rounds of the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific (WAAP) championship after signing for a second round even-par 72 at the Siam Country Club on Friday.
The 25-year-old’s two-day total of two-under-par 142 meant she will tee off for her third round tied in tied-24th place- 10 shots behind second round leader Wu Chun-wei of Chinese Taipei.
“I’m very pleased with how I handled myself the first two rounds. It’s not so much about my scores, but more my mental game and emotions on course. It’s been something I’ve been struggling with last year and it’s something I wanna improve and focus on this year.
“My goal for the weekend is to focus on myself and not think about the leaderboard..
“I want to focus on my routine and putting a score together regardless of how I’m playing. I think if I do these right, the golf and scores will settle themselves,” said Atienza.

Inez Ng will also join Atienza in the remaining 36 holes after she posted rounds of 73 and 72 to be among the leading 50 players and ties to seal their places with the cut set at two-over par.
Jaymie Ng (148), Chen Xingtong (154), Jillian Kuk (156) and Passion Hsu (160), meanwhile, failed to progress.
The winner on Sunday will be rewarded with starts in three major championships in 2024 – the AIG Women’s Open at St Andrews, the Amundi Evian Championship in France and the Chevron Championship in the United States of America.
She’ll also receive invitations to a handful of other elite championships such as the Hana Financial Group Championship, ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open, The 121st Women’s Amateur Championship and the Augusta National Women’s Amateur.
This week’s starting line-up consisted of 90 players representing 22 countries and territories. Among them are ten of the top-50 and 21 of the top-100 in the latest WAGR standings.
