SEA Games 2017 Gold Medal Team member Joshua Ho seals victory at the MPI Saujana Amateur Championship 2018 played on the Bunga Raya course at Saujana Golf & Country Club. He joins fellow former Singaporean winners; George Foo (2008) and Nicklaus Chiam (2013). It is the second international victory in a row for Team Singapore to kick off the tournament season following Gregory’s win at the Sarawak Amateur.
It is also the first overseas tournament which our players are proudly donning the new SGA Team Kit supported by new partner FootJoy (FJ). SGA and FJ are looking into a long-term partnership and to work closely to have both parties well represented. Please see photos of our new kit in our gallery.
This year’s MPI Saujana Amateur Championship was again heavy contested by our Nomura Cup (Asia-Pacific Amateur Team Championship 2017) champions Thailand as well as players from Australia, Malaysia, Philippines, New Zealand and Hong Kong. Asian Games 2018 nominee Joshua Ho headed into the final round with a two-stroke lead and played almost a flawless round of golf until a bogey on the last to settle with a 68 (4-under). He finished the tournament with all three rounds under par (70,69,68) 9-under total, winning by two-strokes over highest World Ranked Amateur (23rd) in the field Thailand’s Sadom Kaewkanjana. Joshua played superb golf from tee to green, only missing two greens in the final round with 5 birdies and 1 bogey.
Second best local performer was another Asian Games 2018 nominee Abdul Hadi who finished T8th (72,76,72) 4-over par total. Hadi just recently completed his National Service in May and will be in full steam preparation for the rest of the year. Most of our Development Squad players finished their final round with much confidence and importantly gained a valuable week of tournament experience. SGA continues to groom our younger team members as part of our Multi-Year Sports Plan and Vision 2024.

There are certainly much more golf to come this summer as our Team prepares for next week’s Malaysian Amateur Open played at Sultan Abdul Aziz Golf & Country Club, Shah Alam and our 2nd National Ranking Game played end of May at Tanah Merah Country Club, Garden Course. SGA will have 12 players representing Singapore in the Malaysian Amateur Open. Our team will consist of a combination of Elite, Development and Overseas Squad members. We wish them the best of luck and fly the Singapore flag up high.
