The 40th Queen Sirikit Cup

The Queen Sirikit Cup, also known as The Asia Pacific Ladies Team Championships, is a tournament keenly contested by 14 nations annually. The very 1st edition was hosted by Thailand in 1979.

Thai teen sensation, Atthaya Thitikul, lived up to expectations at the 40th Queen Sirikit Cup held on May 8th to 11th 2018 at Thana City Country Club in Thailand.

Fifteen year old Atthaya, the youngest Ladies European Tour winner when she won the Ladies European Thailand Championship in 2017, chased down leaders Yuka Sasao of the Phillipines and Yuna Nishimura of Japan with a 67 on the final day to win the Individual title.

However, her brilliant 67 was not enough to prevent the mighty Koreans from winning the Queen Sirikit Cup once again. Tied on 279 after Day 2, both teams returned identical -6 scores on Day 3.

With both teams tied at -15, the countback system was applied and it was a heart-breaking One stroke loss for the home team as the 3rd Korean player posted Even par while the 3rd Thai player was 1 over for the final round. Japan finished a very close 3rd at -14.

A nerve wrecking and exciting final day to cap the historic 40th anniversary of this prestigious team tournament.

Team Singapore comprised Elite Squad member Callista Chen and Development Squad members Hailey Loh and Shannon Tan. The DS players were amongst the youngest in the field and gained valuable experience playing against some older opponents. The team did well to finish ahead of Myanmar and Hong Kong in the team championship. With emphasis on grooming a younger team for the future, we are confident Team Singapore will improve on their ranking in the next series.

The 41st Queen Sirikit Cup will be held in Adelaide in March 2019.
