SGA Development Squad member Brandon Han made birdies on the 15th and 18th hole to secure a comfortable victory in the first leg of the 2018 HSBC Youth Golf Challenge over nearest competitors John Ho of Singapore Island Country Club and Justin Kuk of Keppel Club.
The 1st Leg of the HSBC Youth Golf Challenge was halted by a huge thunderstorm during the second round for a couple of hours and most of the players struggled including Han who shot an 8-over 80 after an opening round of 3-over 75. Kuk posted similar scores on the first and second day, joint club house leader with Han after the second round.
Han had a dismal front nine to start his third round by carding a double on the 2nd hole, followed by bogeys on the 4th, 7th and another double on the 9th. Ho had his best round of the tournament by carding a 4-over 76 in the third round putting pressure on the leaders. On the back nine, Han withstood the pressure and fought back into the lead. He shot a one-under on the back nine for a 3-over 75 in the final round to win by six shots over John Ho.
In the Girls A category, SGA Development Squad member Nicole Mok took top prize by beating fellow competitors, Ashley Goh and Jezreel Tang of Warren Golf and Country Club.
In the Boys B category Jake Foley kept his good form by winning the first leg of the HSBC Youth Golf Challenge. Jake shot 75, 79, 78 for a three-day total of 232.
