Shannon Tan Wins 2018 Salamanca Inn Women’s Amateur Championship of Tasmania

 

27 November 2018 – Shannon Tan, our young SGA Development Squad member did Singapore proud by winning the 2018 Salamanca Inn Women’s Amateur Championship of Tasmania today. She defeated Isabelle Simpson of Queensland 9 and 8 in the finals over 36 holes. Played at the Tasmania Golf Club, the event is for men and women of any age and played over a 36-holes stroke play qualifier with the top 16 men and 16 women qualifying for the match-play rounds.

Shannon shot rounds of 76 and 79 (155) tied second with Hallie Meaburn of Tasmania, 80, 75 (155) and Isabelle Simpson of Queensland 77, 78 (155) to qualify for the Quarterfinals. In the Quarterfinals, she over shone Sarah Johnstone of Tasmania to win 6 and 5. She set herself for a semi-final showdown with top qualifier, Fiona Xu of New Zealand. The semi-final was highly contested as both players tussled and the match eventually went to a sudden death playoff. On the 20th hole, Shannon finally got the better of her opponent and booked her place in the finals. Her opponent in the finals, Isabelle Simpson of Queensland did not have it easy in her own semi-final match as she narrowly beat her opponent Hallie Meaburn 2 and 1.

In the Finals, Shannon showed great courage and determination as she quickly triumph in the match by defeating Isabelle 9 and 8. Shannon’s victory is an encouraging start. It is exciting times ahead for Women’s golf as SGA continues our quest to develop junior golf and provide more opportunities for our talented youth.
