The National Ranking Game (NRG) 2022 made a comeback this year over at NSRCC Kranji Golf Course, after players withstood the rainy conditions in the second round and glaring heat in the first and final rounds. Due to inclement weather, the second round of NRG was abandoned.
National Squad player Daryl Low emerged into glorious victory as he clinched the champion title in the male division with a six-under 69, 69 – a mere representation of his calm demeanour and strong focus throughout both rounds to produce consistent and excellent results. Following closely behind him was Brayden Lee with an even 73, 71 in second place and Ryan Wong with an even 72, 72 in third place.
When asked on the contributing factors to his success, he humbly credited his father for being his guide. “I would like to thank my dad. My dad helped me a lot — he watched me practise the past few sessions and he improved my putting by a solid two strokes at least,” mentioned Daryl. He further added that his coaches Matt Ballard and Joshua Shou have been coaching him exceptionally well leading up to this tournament which helped him in his iron play.
In the female division, National Squad player Aloysa Atienza emerged as champion with 69, 71 (-4) – another remarkable achievement to be applauded for after finishing top 10 in the prestigious Australian Women’s Amateur in early April this year. What’s even more astounding is the fact that this is Aloysa’s third consecutive win in the NRG! SGA Development Squad player Shayne Lim came in second place after achieving a 67, 74 (-3), with Tatiana Ang following behind her with a two-over 72, 74.
As the SEA Games approaches around the corner, Aloysa has been keeping focussed and working thoroughly on preparing for the inaugural tournament to fly the national flag high. “I believe that I have the game to play good golf, but what’s holding me back is the mental game,” she remarked. She further added that she has been working hard with Hansen, her mental coach, to soar high during the SEA Games.
SGA would like to congratulate all players of the NRG for pulling off such a wonderful game!
