Team Singapore wraps up South East Asian Amateur Golf Team Championship as it readies to host the 2024 edition

Kuala Lumpur, August 24: Chen Xingtong signed off her campaign with a three-over-par 74 to finish in second place on the individual leaderboard- five shots behind Achiraya Sriwong who closed with a 63 to help Thailand clinch the Kartini Cup at the South East Asian Amateur Golf Team Championship on Thursday.
Chen, together with Passion Hsu and Aamiya Koul, claimed third place for Team Singapore in the event with their 597 total with Philippines securing a runner-up finish.
Wong Qi Wen, Irvyn Tan, Sean Pang and Nathen Tan, meanwhile, made a final charge as the quartet signed off from the Putra Cup by compiling a four-day total of 895 to finish in seventh place. Indonesia took top honours in the Putra Cup with Vietnam and the Philippines finishing in second and third place respectively at the Mines Resort Golf Club.
In the Lion City Cup, Team Singapore- represented by Ethan Lim, Bruce Kwong and Troy Storm settled for fifth position with their 601 total as Thailand clinched the Cup with their winning total of 574.
At the Santi Cup which was won by Thailand, Valencia Chang, Hailey Loh and Yoko Tai ended the nation’s challenge in fourth place with their 583 total.
Singapore will play host to the 2024 edition of the South East Asian Amateur Golf Team Championship. The dates and venue will be announced at a later date.

Round 3
Team Singapore struggles as Thailand and Indonesia dominate South East Asian Amateur Golf Team Championship

Kuala Lumpur, August 23: Team Singapore slipped to eighth position on a day where Indonesia continued to lead the Putra Cup by holding a massive 11-shot lead over Vietnam with their three-day total of 625 at the South East Asian Amateur Golf Team Championship on Wednesday.
Wong Qi Wen posted a 71 while Irvyn Tan, Sean Pang and Nathen Tan returned with respective scores of 79, 85 and 77 at the Mines Resort Golf Club.
In the Santi Cup, Valencia Chang (72), Hailey Loh (75) and Yoko Tai (79) continued to place Team Singapore in fourth position with their combined total of 438- 13 shots behind Thailand, who has led the event since the second round.
Ethan Lim, meanwhile, returned with his lowest individual score of 72 this week to help Team Singapore move a spot up to fifth place after Bruce Kwong and Troy Storm signed for a 75 and 78 respectively at the Lion City Cup which Thailand continues to dominate.
At the Kartini Cup, Team Singapore, represented by Chen Xingtong, Passion Hsu and Aamiya Koul trails Thailand by 12 shots in second place. Chen remains in pole position on the individual leaderboard after rounds of 73,69 and 69.

Team Singapore battles on at South East Asian Amateur Golf Team Championship

Kuala Lumpur, August 22: Indonesia took over the overnight lead from Vietnam in the Putra Cup after posting a combined score of 418 at the South East Asian Amateur Golf Team Championship on Tuesday.
Team Singapore’s quartet of Wong Qi Wen (75), Sean Pang (78), Irvyn Tan (79) and Nathen Tan (85), meanwhile, carded a two-day total of 450 to occupy seventh place.
The Lion City Cup for boys under 16 saw Team Singapore placed in sixth as Troy Storm (76), Bruce Kwong (76) and Ethan Lim (78) returned with a 305- 17 shots behind host nation and leader, Malaysia.
At the Santi Cup, Team Singapore, represented by Valencia Chang (73), Hailey Loh (75) and Yoko Tai (75) trail leader Thailand by nine shots in fourth place with their 291 total.
In the Kartini Cup for girls under 16, Chen Xingtong fired a 69 to spearhead the individual category but the team’s combined score of 301 after a 79 and 80 by Aamiya Koul and Passion Hsu respectively saw them take tied- second place behind Thailand at the Mines Resort Golf Club.

Mixed opening day for Team Singapore at South East Asian Amateur Asian Golf Team Championship

Kuala Lumpur, August 21: Hailey Loh kickstarted Team Singapore’s challenge with a first-round even-par 71 at the Santi Cup as the South East Asian Amateur Asian Golf Team Championship got underway at the Mines Resort and Golf Club on Monday.
Valencia Chang, meanwhile, posted a 72 while Yoko Tai returned with a 74. In the Putra Cup, Wong Qi Wen signed for the team’s lowest score of 71 as Irvyn Tan, Sean Pang and Nathen Tan returned with respective scores of 73, 74 and 78.
Singapore is currently third behind Hong Kong and Thailand based on the team score of 143 in the Santi Cup while the team score of 218 has placed Singapore in seventh place in the Putra Cup
Troy Storm posted a 75 while Ethan Lim marked his card with a 78 and Bruce Kwong returned with a 81 in the Lion City Cup to take sixth place with a team score of 153 while Chen Xingtong carded a 73 with Passion Hsu and Aamiya Koul signing for a 80 and 87 respectively in the Kartini Cup where they are fourth behind Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines with their score of 153.
The South East Asian Amateur Asian Golf Team Championship is a strokeplay event played over four rounds of 18 holes. In each round, the total of the lowest scores returned by the players in each team will be the team’s score for that round. The three lowest scores returned by the players in each team for each round will be the team score for that round in the Putra Cup.
For the Lion City Cup, Santi Cup and Kartini Cup, the team’s score for each round will be based on the lowest two scores returned by the players in each team.

Team Singapore arrives in KL ahead of South East Asian Amateur Asian Golf Team Championship
Kuala Lumpur, August 20: Team Singapore has arrived in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur as 13 squad members get ready to compete against some of ASEAN’s top amateurs at the South East Asian Amateur Golf Team Championship which tees off at the Mines Resort and Golf Club on Monday.
Singapore is part of the nine countries that have confirmed its participation in this prestigious event which includes the 60th Putra Cup, the 14th Lion City Cup, the 12th Santi Cup, and the 8th Kartini Cup. Other countries include Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong, China, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, and the host country, Malaysia.
The Putra Cup, initiated in 1961 by Malaysia’s former Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman, was designed to foster closer ties among South-East Asian nations and elevate the regional standard of golf.
Complementing this legacy, Singapore introduced the Lion City Cup in 2004 to recognize the region’s best boys golfers under 16 while Thailand introduced the Santi Cup in 2009 to feature the top women amateurs, followed by Indonesia introducing the Kartini Cup in 2013 to highlight junior girls under 16.
The event, by invitation only, extends to members of the ASEAN Golf Federation although Myanmar, Laos, and Papua New Guinea will not be participating this year.
