SGA reigning golfer of the Year Shannon Tan continued her remarkable rise on the international stage after recording the best Major finish of her career with a tied-sixth placing at the AIG Women’s Open on Sunday.
The 22-year-old closed with a two-under-par 69 at Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club in Lancashire, England, to finish the season’s final Major on a one-under-par total of 283.
The result further underlines Tan’s status as one of Asia’s leading golfers and reinforces Singapore’s growing presence on the global golfing stage.
After opening with rounds of 69, 74 and 71, Tan produced a composed final-round performance, carding four birdies against a double bogey to cap a memorable week, where her finish placed her alongside some of the world’s leading players, including England’s Charley Hull and Lottie Woad, Japan’s Rio Takeda, Chinese Taipei’s Hsu Wei-Ling and South Korea’s Ryu Hae-ran.
Japan’s Shiho Kuwaki claimed the title after defeating Germany’s Esther Henseleit in a playoff after both players finished regulation at five-under-par 279.
Tan’s latest result marks another milestone in what has already been a historic season for Singapore golf.
The SGA professional has improved on her best finish in every Major championship she has contested this year. Prior to the AIG Women’s Open, her best result was a tied-16th finish at the Amundi Evian Championship in July, following a tied-32nd placing at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in June and a tied-38th finish at The Chevron Championship in April.
The career-best performance adds to an outstanding 2026 campaign for Tan, who has already claimed two Ladies European Tour titles, secured the prestigious LET Order of Merit crown, and become the first golfer to be named The Straits Times Athlete of the Year.
