Singapore, June 7: Singapore’s Chen Xingtong continued to underline her status as one of the promising players of the future as the 15-year-old captured the A Girls Division title with a final round three-under-par 69 at the Keppel Club on Friday.
Chen stumbled early in her front-nine with a bogey on the first hole and dropped another shot on eight. She regained her composure by draining a birdie on nine from 16 feet followed by another on 10.
The Singapore Sports School student bogeyed 11 but charged back strongly with four successive birdies starting from the par-five 14 to eventually sign off with a three-day total of three-over-par 219 to win the title on countback.
Thailand’s Suritpreeya Pruksanubal, meanwhile, enjoyed a commanding 11-shot victory over Vietnam’s Nguyen Viet Gia Han when she closed with a four-under-par 68 for a winning total of four-under-par 212 in the B Girls Division.
Thanattasorn Supinraj capped a double celebration for Thailand as he clinched the A Boys Division title on countback after trading five bogeys against seven birdies for a 70, denying Singapore’s troy Storm and compatriot Warut Boonrod of their podium finish.
In the B Boys Division, India’s Kartik Singh completed a wire-to-wire win after posting a final round 69 for a massive 17-shot victory over Malaysia’s Afham Othman.
