July 2: Singapore’s Chen Xingtong continued to show her growing credentials by setting the early pace at the 76th Singapore Open Amateur with her opening six-under-par 67 at the Orchid Country Club on Tuesday.
The 15-year-old from Singapore Sports School stumbled early with two bogeys on holes three and five in her opening-nine at the Aranda course. But she recovered gallantly with three birdies in her next four holes to turn in 35.
She then stormed her way atop the leaderboard with an amazing back-nine where she fired four consecutive birdies from the 10th hole on the Dendro course. Chen dropped another shot on the 14th hole but came back strongly again with another two birdies in her last four holes to establish a three-shot advantage over Hei Tung Leung from Hong Kong, China.
Guam’s Ivan Seblan, meanwhile, signed for a 68 to take a slender one-shot lead over Thailand’s Thanawin Lee and Philippines’ Enrique Dimayuga in the male division.
Ends.
