Golf officials gather for annual WHS course rating seminar

Golf officials gathered for a three-day course rating seminar that was supported by the World Handicap System (WHS) and held at Sentosa Golf Club from November 6-8, 2024.

Conducted by experienced trainers, 30 officials were in attendance over the course of three days.

The opening session was an introduction to the Course Rating System where participants learnt about how the system works and the requirements of becoming a certified member of a Course Rating team.

Certified trainers then conducted a classroom review of the golf course to be rated where its playing length and obstacle factors were evaluated. They were also introduced to different topics such as the slope rating for a scratch and bogey player.

Course Rating education and certification help to ensure consistency in the application of the system across all golf courses around the world – which is so important when it comes to the portability of handicaps and integrity of the WHS.
