James Leow is enjoying a good summer performance so far and will heading back to the US in August. We asked a few questions about how he felt and what lies ahead.

How was the competitive environment like?

It has been almost 2 years since I last competed in a tournament. All I did was practice and work on specific parts of my game when I was in the National service and US(earlier part of this year). While I was in Arizona state U, I had the opportunity to compete against fellow teammates and build on my game that I was lacking in with the facility provided. Our team coach placed a lot of emphasize on playing under pressure and getting better at our weaknesses to be an all round player. I lost the touch for competing but it’s always a refreshing feeling getting back.

When it comes to competition, it was a test of scoring ability, mental toughness under pressure situations and course management for me. It’s also a venue for me to compete against international players and know that every shot counts in a tournament. If every player is of the same playing level, the one who makes the least mistake (bogey, etc) and make the most birdies, eagles and etc will be the winner

How did you feel when u won?

I was speechless, it was my first Malaysian state event win in 5 starts in 2 months. Putting in all the hours of practice back in US and during national service felt like it paid off. Also having finished 2nd twice at both Warren and SOAC was a tough pill to swallow for me. But excited was the word and I was pleased with how I carried myself during the whole tournament.

What else do u hope to achieve this year?

There are 2 more events (KL and SNAC) before I head back to college. I hope to keep my momentum going and perform in both events. When I’m back in states in a few weeks time with my college teammates, I hope to excel with them.
