Singapore Golf Association and BFG Golf announce 2024 junior golf series

(SGA and BFG official signing on June 19 2023)

Singapore December 27: Aspiring juniors seeking to make their early headway in golf will get more opportunities to start their journey with a full schedule of junior golf tournaments set to tee off in February 2024.

Following the success of the national junior inter-club league, over 30 tournaments for juniors across various stages of development, will be held across various golf courses and clubs in Singapore in 2024.  These include Sentosa Golf Club, Warren Golf and Country Club, Seletar Country Club, Keppel Golf Club, Tanah Merah Country Club, Singapore Island Country Club, Mandai Executive Golf Course, Sembawang Country Club and Orchid Country Club.

With the expansion of the age groups from five to 14 years old now, more junior golfers can develop their tournament skills while enjoying a quality competitive atmosphere at affordable rates at the SGA-BFG Junior Golf Series 2024.

They will also get the opportunity to vie for the Singapore Golf Association (SGA) Junior Development Order of Merit (JDOOM) which is a performance-based points system that acts as the main selection tool for selection/requalification into SGA Future and Junior squads, as well as selection for international junior tournaments.

The top five juniors in the Boys & Girls ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ Division respectively in the Junior Order of Merit will also be invited to take part in the season-ending Grand Final which will be held at the Sentosa Golf Club on December 10, 2024.

Tan Chong Huat, President of SGA said: “2024 is poised to be an exciting season which will shape the development and growth of the junior golf scene in Singapore in a very positive way. Together with BFG Golf, we have established a pathway for junior golfers to reach their full potential while also unearth promising young golfing talents.”

Lawrence Ng, Founder of BFG Golf said: “We are thrilled to be able to announce this schedule of events that our junior golfers can finally compete and unleash their full potential. BFG Golf is ready to support SGA’s initiatives and this is also a reflection of our national commitment to provide our future stars of tomorrow with the opportunities to excel in a sport that they love.”

12-year-old Aamiya Koul, who has progressed from SGA’s future to junior squad this year, believes the SGA-BFG Junior Golf Series will provide many more opportunities for juniors to start their golfing journey.

“Having made that progression from the future squad to the SGA junior squad, I’m thankful to SGA for giving me these opportunities to improve my golf to a level where I can compete with the best in the world. With the launch of the SGA-BFG Junior Golf Series, I believe we will see more juniors coming through the ranks,” said Koul, who finished third at the World Stars of Junior Golf Championship in Las Vegas in June.

She would go on to cap a memorable year when she emerged victorious with her triumph at the US Kids Golf Indian Championship in December.

In a landmark partnership announced earlier in June, BFG Golf had committed to a three-year financial support of close to S$250,000 for SGA junior golf development programs.
