Singapore junior golfers made our mark at the recently concluded Singha Thailand Junior World Golf Championships 2017 (Singha Junior World) held at Royal Hua Hin Golf Course (Royal Hua Hin), Thailand’s oldest golf course. This year saw 19 Singapore golfers participating with SGA making a strong statement of intent by sending 6 players from the Development Squad (DS) and 11 players from the newly formed Junior Squad (JS) with numerous Singapore juniors playing this event for the first time.

At this year’s competition, Royal Hua Hin played tough for all the golfers. With rough consisting of very mature trees and oftentimes iffy lies, small and slow greens and high swirling winds, many participants’ rounds suffered high scores, especially on the initial rounds.
At the close of the competition, Singapore was able to have podium finishers in both Girls “B” and “C” events. In Girls “B” Division, Development Squad member Inez Ng took the 3rd runners-up position and Development Squad member Hailey Loh, 4th runner-up and Inez and Hailey combining to take Girls Team 2nd runners-up. From the Junior Squad, Angel Lim was able to secure 4th runners-up position in Girls “C” Division. Many other Junior Squad players who were not podium finishers also played well.

The week in Hua Hin was a great growth experience for the Singapore juniors in their learning journey to become global players. Our junior golfers also brought SGA souvenirs to share with other countries participants and were great ambassadors for the game and for Singapore.
Singha Junior World is one of the most prestigious junior golf tournaments in South East Asia’s golfing calendar and this year was no exception with top players participating from 15 countries from as far away as USA and Denmark, and regional powerhouses like China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia and host country Thailand, all sending strong teams.
