Team Thailand Secures Historic win in Malaysia

This year’s edition of the Asia-Pacific Golf Team Championships, also known as the Nomura Cup, took place at the Sungai Long Golf & country club in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.  The biennial event featured a total of 92 players from 23 countries around the Asia- Pacific region.

The week certainly belonged to Team Thailand as they led from start to finish to secure a historic win, becoming the first Southeast Asian country to clinch the Nomura Cup. The Thai team comprising of Kammalas Namuangruk, Atiruj Winaicharoenchai, Kosuke Hamamoto and Sadom Kaewkanja put on a clinical performance to combine for a total team score of 56 under- par (808), finishing 12 shots ahead of Team Japan at 44 under-par (820), while Team Australia finished in third place with a team score of 39 under par (825).  In the individual event, Thailand’ s Kammalas Namangruk took home the title with a four-day score of 18 under-par (270).

Our Singapore Team comprising of Gregory Foo, Marc Ong, Joshua Ho and Joshua Shou finished in 11th place with a total team score of 16 under-par (848).  Joshua Ho started the week strong with scores of 68 and 69 but fell off in the last two rounds. Gregory Foo, on the other hand, finished strong in the final two rounds with 66,67 to lead the team close to a Top-10 finish.

It was certainly not the result the boys were looking for, as it was their last time playing together as a team. Nevertheless, it has been a memorable year for Singapore in team competition and we will strive to work hard and improve on this in the years to come.
