Nagoya, Japan, October 1: Shannon Tan fired a six-under-par 64 to remain in pole position on the individual leaderboard after the second round of the women’s golf competition at the Asian Games on Thursday.
Starting the morning with a three-shot advantage at the Kasugai Country Club’s East Course, Shannon stormed out of the blocks from the back-nine 10, with five birdies in her first six holes.
She picked up another gain on 18 before continuing her stunning birdie blitz with another three birdies on holes one, two and four after the turn. Her run was halted after she dropped three shots on the sixth, eighth and ninth holes to end her round with a two-day total of 13-under-par 127.
India’s Pranavi Sharath signed for a 63 to take solo second while Korea’s Yang Yunseo and China’s Yin Ruoning are tied for third on 133. China moved ahead of Singapore in the team leaderboard with their 268 total, with the Republic trailing closely in second on 269.
Chen Xingtong and Amanda Tan, meanwhile, slipped to tied-19th and 25th place after returning with identical 73s.
In the men’s competition, Hiroshi Tai carded a 70 to trail second round individual leaders, Chinese Taipei’s Wang Wei-hsuan and China’s Ding Wenyi by nine shots in tied-22nd place. James Leow (73) and Nicklaus Chiam (75) ended the day in tied-36th and 44th place respectively.
China and Japan are tied for the lead in the team standings, while Singapore are in 12th place.
