Nagoya, Japan, October 2: Shannon Tan will head into the final round of the individual women’s golf competition in second place after posting a one-over-par 71 in the third round at the Asian Games on Friday.
Shannon’s three-day total of 12-under-par 198 will see her start the final round three shots behind India’s Pranavi Sharath, who returned with a 66. China’s major champion Yin Ruoning is a shot behind Shannon in outright third place, after posting a 66.
Shannon started the penultimate round with a two-shot cushion over Pranavi. However, she saw that advantage quickly wiped out after dropping three shots on the second, fifth and 10th holes.
She regained her composure with three successive birdies starting from the par-four 11th, making another bogey on 14.
Chen Xingtong and Amanda Tan are tied for 26th place, following their respective rounds of 78 and 75 at the Kasugai Country Club’s East Course. Singapore are currently in fifth place in the team standings, with China leading the women’s team competition.
Hiroshi Tai signed for a 69 after mixing his card with two birdies, an eagle, one bogey and a double bogey to sit in a tie for 19th. James Leow posted a 67 for a share of 26th place. Nicklaus Chiam missed the cut after carding 75 in each of his first two rounds.
China leads the men’s team standings, while Singapore are in 10th place.
