April 27: SGA professional Ryan Ang emerged as the top Singaporean with his tied-12th finish at The Singapore Open presented by The Business Times – in a week where four Singaporeans, including amateurs and national squad members Brayden Lee and Troy Storm made the cut for the first time since 2018.
Ang closes with a final round five-under-par 66 at The Serapong, Sentosa Golf Club where his four-day total of six-under-par 278, saw him end the week, 10 shots behind winner, Ham Jeong-woo of South Korea.
James Leow posted rounds of 75, 66, 71 and 67 to secure a tied-17th finish while Lee and Storm ended tied-56th and 67th respectively.
For the first time, the 57th edition of Singapore’s National Open welcomed The Business Times on board as presenting partner.
The Singapore Open was part of The International Series and The Open Qualifying Series.
The leading two players, not otherwise exempt, were rewarded with places in the game’s oldest Major, which will be played at Royal Birkdale from 16-19 July.
Ham and Australia’s Cameron John, who finished second, punched their tickets to The Open.
Ends.
