March 22: Brayden Lee admits the learning curve is going to be steep as he vows to step up his game after missing the cut at the Porsche Singapore Classic by one shot on Saturday.
The 17-year-old is the only amateur in the 132-strong field and made a promising start with an opening three-under-par 69 at the weather-hit DP World Tour event, which will now be contested over 54 holes. However, a second round 74 meant the national squad member would end the day in tied-68th place, 10 shots back of American leader Dan Erickson.
Playing alongside DP World tournament winners, Andrea Pavan and Brandon Stone at Laguna National Golf Resort Club, Lee mixed two birdies against two bogeys for an outward 35. He dropped two more shots on holes 11 and 14 before making four straight pars to close with a 74 and two-day total of one-under-par 143.
“Playing with Brandon and Andrea really opened my mind about how good these guys are. I will just reflect and see how they manage their game on the course and hopefully, implement some of the things they do into my game.
“There wasn’t much difference between my rounds. Today, I was playing to make the cut. The wind picked up quite a bit and it definitely made the course a lot harder. But for me, it was the careless mistakes which made me shoot two-over-par.
“I definitely need to improve my putting as I’ve been struggling with that for quite a while. Things are getting slightly better. But even with a good putting week, you can see the difference between me and Andrea,” said Lee.
