Troy Storm issued his early statement of intent at the Singapore Junior Golf Championship by snatching the first round lead at the A Boys division with a seven-under-par 65 at the Keppel Club on Wednesday.
The 15-year-old, a junior national squad member, enjoyed a blemish-free card which he marked with birdies on holes two, three, six, nine, 10, 14 and 16 to establish a three-shot advantage over Thailand’s Thanattasorn Supinraj at the 54-hole strokeplay event.
In the B Boys division, India’s Kartik Singh will head into the second round with a four-shot lead over Vietnam’s Nguyen Quoc Bao Huy after he signed for a 70.
National squad member Chen Xingtong, meanwhile took the early honours in the A Girls division after signing for a 72 while Hong Kong China’s Hou Peiqi and Thailand’s Suritpreeya Pruksanubal are tied at the top after returning with matching 72 in the B Girls division.
The Singapore Junior Golf Championship will be contested from June 5-7 and has attracted 105 amateur players from 16 countries including Singapore, India, Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, Guam, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, Germany, Australia, USA, Taiwan, South Korea, Philippines and China.
