Thailand’s Warut Boonrod fired the day’s lowest round of six-under-par 66 in the A Boys Division to snatch the second round lead from overnight leader Troy Storm, who slipped to a share of second place after returning with a 75 at the Keppel Club on Thursday.
Warut made his move early with an eagle-three on the second hole but lost ground momentarily with a double-bogey and bogey on holes five and eight respectively.
However, the 16-year-old Thai bravely recovered from those three dropped shots by firing another eagle on the ninth hole before charging ahead with three birdies on 11, 13 and 14.
Another eagle on 15 then soared him atop the leaderboard as his two-day total of seven-under-par 137 gave him a three-shot lead over India’s Rakshit Dahiya, Thailand’s Thanattasorn Supinraj and Storm.
India’s Kartik Singh continued to take pole position in the B Boys Division after signing for a 68 while Singapore’s Valencia Chang made up for her opening 76 by carding a 71 to secure a one-shot lead over Thailand’s Prim Prachnakorn and take her place atop the leaderboard in the A Girls Division.
Thailand’s Suritpreeya Pruksanubal, meanwhile, took over the outright lead in the B Girls division by posting another identical 72 to establish a three-shot cushion over Singapore’s Aamiya Koul as the championship heads into its final round on Friday.
The Singapore Junior Golf Championship will be contested from June 5-7 and has attracted 105 amateur players from 16 countries including Singapore, India, Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, Guam, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, Germany, Australia, USA, Taiwan, South Korea, Philippines and China.
