Singapore, August 27: The Singapore Golf Association (SGA) has unveiled its 2026/27 national squad, bringing together the country’s leading amateur and professional golfers who will represent Singapore at domestic and international competitions.
The squad announcement reflects SGA’s continued commitment to developing a strong and sustainable high-performance pathway, with athletes supported through structured training, competition exposure and access to technical and sports science resources.
Selection was based on a comprehensive assessment of performances over the past year, including results from squad trials, Order of Merit rankings and other competitive performances, alongside committee selection.
The 2026 squad enters the new season on the back of a series of encouraging performances on the international stage, underlining the progress of Singapore’s high-performance programme.
Among the standout performers is Shannon Tan, who enjoyed a breakthrough season on the Ladies European Tour, securing two victories and going on to win the LET Order of Merit. She also recorded Singapore’s best-ever finish at a Major with a tied-sixth placing at the AIG Women’s Open.
On the men’s side, Nicklaus Chiam and Ryan Ang secured their maiden professional titles at the PKNS Selangor Masters and Straits Cup Xiamen Open, while James Leow earned his Asian Tour card following his success on the Asian Development Tour.
The amateur ranks have also continued to produce promising results, with national squad members making their mark at major international championships and contributing to Singapore’s best-ever finishes at the World Amateur Team Championships (WATC) in 2025. Justin Kuk, who made his breakthrough at the Vietnam Amateur Open last month, was delighted to be named in the national squad again and looks forward to flying the flag high – locally and abroad.
“It’s always an honour and goal of mine to be included in the national squad each year. I do not take that for granted. We have a good mix of squad members with the younger kids and older ones like us coming together, sharing learning experiences and being one team,” said Kuk.
SGA National Coach Murray Smit said the latest squad represents an exciting mix of established performers and emerging talent.
“We have a strong group of athletes who have demonstrated their ability and potential at the highest levels of competition. Our focus now is to continue providing them with the support, preparation and international exposure they need to take the next step in their development. We are confident this group can represent Singapore with pride and compete strongly on the regional and international stage,” said Smit.
The 2026 national squad will have opportunities to compete in major international events throughout the year, including the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, where Singapore will be represented by Nicklaus Chiam, James Leow, Hiroshi Tai, Shannon, Amanda Tan and Chen Xingtong
With Singapore’s professional and amateur golfers continuing to make their presence felt internationally, SGA will also remain focused on strengthening the pathway from junior development through to elite and professional golf.
The national squad programme forms a key part of SGA’s broader high-performance strategy to develop athletes capable of competing at the highest level while inspiring the next generation of Singapore golfers.
