Singapore Junior Golf Championship 2022: Singapore’s Jaymie Ng wins overall girls division and Chen Xingtong wins Girls B division

The fairways of Seletar Country Club welcomed 92 juniors across ten countries this week for the inaugural Singapore Junior Golf Championship 2022. After a fierce battle between players from Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, India, Canada, USA, South Korea, Malaysia, China and Singapore, Singapore’s Jaymie Ng emerged as the newly crowned champion in the girls’ division, with Harry Takis from Australia emerging as champion in the Boys Division.

History is written for Singapore as the seventeen-year-old Jaymie Ng became the first Singaporean girl to win the Overall Girls title since 2011. Finishing her final round with a stellar birdie, birdie, par finish, she won by one stroke over Indonesia’s Rayi Geulis Zullandari and Thailand’s Navaporn Soontreeyapas. She expressed, “I feel very honoured to win this event as it has a strong field of players from 10 different countries. It was a great challenge for me and I am happy to pull off the win.”

She attributed this win to her being competition ready after having played at various tournaments including the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific and other events in Australia which SGA has sent her for. Looking ahead, Jaymie will be flying to the US to play in the US Junior Girls’ Qualifier, the FCG Callaway World and the FCG Callaway International along with the IMG Junior World Championships in July.

In the Boys Division, Harry Takis emerged as champion, four strokes ahead of Indonesia’s Rayhan Abdul Latief after a fiery final round of five-under 67.

Singapore’s Chen Xingtong won the Girls B Division while Australia’s Ollie Marsh clinched the Boys B Division.

The fourteen-year old Singaporean revived her game strategy after a first round of 82 (+10) to a spectacular final round of 69 (-3), a sweet victory for Xingtong who also clinched the champion title for the HSBC Youth Golf Challenge Girls’ B Division mid March this year. She expressed, “This victory is special as I won even with a pool of both international and national golfers competing in the championship, and it is my first victory with so many international golfers participating and it gives me more confidence in my abilities to compete with them.”

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to Seletar Country Club for hosting the event this week and congratulations to all winners for a superb week!
